Frequently Asked Questions

An HVAC load calculator determines the capacity in BTU/h needed to heat or cool a space. It takes into account the square footage, ceiling height, number of windows and doors, number of occupants, insulation level and regional climate.

This calculator provides a simplified estimate. The Manual J calculation, developed by the ACCA (Air Conditioning Contractors of America), is a more detailed process that accounts for building orientation, shading, construction materials and other specific factors. It is the industry standard for precise residential HVAC sizing.

Residential: 1.5 to 5 tons (1 ton = 12,000 BTU/h).
Commercial: 2 to over 50 tons depending on the building.

An undersized system won't maintain desired comfort, while an oversized system leads to higher energy costs, short cycling and premature equipment wear. Proper sizing is essential for system efficiency and lifespan.
